The Orton Family Wishes To Thank You!

We want to Thank the many friends and supporters who have generously donated to Patrick's Scholarship Fund. For five years now we have awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Sandpoint High School in Patrick's honor. Thank everyone who has applied and all who have given.

PATRICK ORTON 1988-2013

Patrick Orton was a professional photographer specializing in adventure and lifestyle photography, who captured the joy and light in both the people and the places he photographed. He traveled the world making friends wherever he went - "he never knew a stranger". He lived his life to the fullest, skiing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, swimming and wake boarding, cliff jumping, hiking, camping, dancing and partying with his friends. Sadly, Patrick passed in July of 2013, at 24 years of age.

LIVE YOUR DREAMS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Patrick was a passionate man who mentored many people with his energy, friendship, enthusiasm and boundless love. He was a leader who followed his dreams with a huge, open heart. He was always one of the first people to lend a helping hand when someone was in need. Patrick was living his dream and encouraged others to follow theirs. With these traits in mind, we felt that the best way to remember Patrick and for him to continue to help and inspire our community would be through a scholarship fund. Many people wanted to help and we all felt that the scholarship seemed like the perfect avenue to pass some of Patrick's energy and vision on to others. We have formed a non-profit corporation so that any one can donate and get a tax deduction.

The Edge of the World

A Visual Adventure to the Most Extraordinary Places on Earth

September 1, 2017 - Patrick Orton’s photo was chosen for the cover. Patrick was only 21 when he shot this photo three years before his death. During his life Patrick mentored friends who were serious about pursuing the art of photography. Three of these photographers are also featured in this book. Patrick’s legacy of art, adventure and education lives on exemplifying the timeless power of his personality and his images.

To get this shot of British BASE jumper Chris Bevins nose-diving off 460 foot Thaiwand Wall, near Railay, Thailand, Patrick Orton had to climb four pitches up a 5.11 route called Circus Oz. “I wanted to be directly below Chris when he jumped, “ says the Bozeman, Montana, photographer. Orton, who was dangling from a bolt by his climbing harness, snapped seventeen frames in the thirty seconds it took Bevins to reach the beach. Rappelling took Orton half an hour. “Chris was sipping a margarita at the bar when I got down,” he says.
