Patrick Orton Live Your Dreams Scholarship Board and Catherine
The Patrick Orton Live Your Dreams Scholarship fund was started in 2013 to honor the life of photographer and adventurer, Patrick Orton. After the loss of their son, Patrick, his family created this scholarship to give some financial assistance to local students in Bonner County, Idaho so that they might follow their dreams as Patrick had. Patrick was a professional photographer who led an exhilarating life – living to the fullest whilst pursing his dreams. He continues to be a cherished inspiration to his family, friends and the world community.
Our 2018 Scholarship winner is Catherine Brenner. She is going to Duke Kunshan University in China to study environmental science, chemistry and become fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Her passion for combining cultural studies and working to heal the environment was fueled by a trip she took to Guatemala where she observed the pollution of Lake Atitlan. She envisioned “being part of a team of engineers, scientists and social scientists removing pollutants from the lake and inspiring change.”
Catherine was the co-Valedictorian at Sandpoint High School. She is also a year-round athlete, where she complete her fourth year on the HS swim team. Part of her community service was participating in “24 Hours for Hank”, a fundraiser to benefit cystinosis research.
We wish her the greatest success in her endeavors.
